Please add more options to the Location services. Currently there is only GPS on/off, but I would like to see Location on/off and the option to set High Accuracy/Battery Saving/GPS only in kitkat.

The location services setting is a protected setting so it can't be toggled without user interaction.

As for location mode on KitKat - turning on/off the GPS effectively changes from high accuracy to battery saving mode.

I have a rooted device running KitKat 4.4.2. Tested with Automateit 3.0.185.

Preconditions:
- Location Mode set to "high accuracy"
- Location Services disabled
- Rule created with "Enable GPS" as the action

Observed operation:
When rule is triggered, Location Services is enabled, Location Mode is set to "GPS only".

Desired operation:
When rule is triggered, enable Location Services without changing Location Mode. Even better, enable Location Services and set Location Mode to a desired value.

Is there any way to do this? If not, please consider it a feature request.

Would newer Android versions behave differently?

Thanks!

I just tested the same device using the Automate app from Llama Lab, and it is able to enable Location Services and set a specific Location Mode. This confirms that it is possible on KitKat.

After referring to this thread:

http://android.stackexchange.com/questions/40147/is-it-possible-to-enable-location-services-via-shell

I think you should install AutomateIt Shell Plugin and try running the following and let us know if it works.

Command:
settings put secure location_providers_allowed <value>

where <value> can be:

High accuracy: "gps, wifi, network" or "gps, network" (if you don't want Wi-Fi enabled)
Battery saving: "wifi, network" or "network" only
Device only: "gps"
Disable: ' '
